2008 HAFLA

We have worked out the sound glitches from last year!!
There is so much room at this event venue!!
The elevated stage is great for small numbers or solos (probably 6 or less dancers together), and the large dance floor is perfect for larger troupe numbers.  We had groups use both during a performance and it was amazing.  There will be a video of the performance available for purchase.

Please contact Kira for vender booking information or questions.

Zan Asha is a dreamer, just like you.  Having spent a lifetime in the arts, she has focused the last decade in bellydance.  Beginning in Panama City, she eventually returned to her roots, in New York.  With a degree in theater from NYU, she combined her talents for dance, theater, music and more to form the experimental dance troupe, ChoveXani.

Initially a Gothic Belly Dance troupe, they eventually encompassed experimental and theatrical dance, and were the first to showcase experimental belly dance in New York City (Urban Oasis 2004), the first "gothla" (Tempest workshop 2004 - in which the term "gothla" was coined), and the first fully theatrical bellydance production in NYC, which attracted dancers from around the nation.

She has been a student of Morocco's, Nadia Moussa, Rachel Brice, Carolina Nericcio. She has worked with Sera, Ariellah, Mimi Fontana, Jeniviva, Shakra, and many more. She is an active participant of theater, dance, and all things imaginativie.

     * She will be vending  bellydance products from her line, Lunasee.  These include cabaret skirts, tops, cholis, coinskirts, tribal jewelry, items from around the world, and much more.

The workshop consists of:
40 MINUTES of warm up using yoga.

One and a half hours of tribal style fusion incorporating ATS, Yoga, and ethnofusion, focusting on isolations, pops, locks, and long lean moves, beautiful hands and good posture.

One hour of Classical Oddisi Dance (East Indian) - we work on the basics of posture of hands, legs. Stomping for nritya (rythm), mudras and hand symbolism, and basic classical dance sequences.

PLEASE NOTE: This section is somewhat challenging. While I have simplified it a bit, note that you will be in turned "out position" (in ballet, this would be very much like position #2)the thighs turned out, and squatting. There will also be stoming which may be difficult on the knees. While I will not push anyone beyond their limits, you should note these requirements before signing up.
