Nancy started dancing in July of 2006, not having taken any dance
classes since her ballet teacher moved away when she was six. Out
of the blue, she did an online search for belly dancing in Panama
City, where she found PC Belly Dance. She contacted Kira, and was
hooked after her first class.
Her chosen dance name is Ajilv (pronounced ah-CHEE-la), which is
Cherokee for "fire". This draws upon her heritage and the spirit
she incorporates into her dancing.
She has taken five workshops so far, one on cue-based tribal style
with Lisa Myers and Jesse Rogers from Adelpha, sponsored by Tribal
Wallah in
Tallahassee, a fan workshop with Bastet, also sponsored by Tribal
Wallah. The third workshop was a birthday gift from her husband,
which
was a weekend workshop with Mardi Love, who has been an inspiration
for her. The next two were sponsored by PC Belly Dance at their
2007
hafla: DeLacey Santini (tribal fusion practice and drilling) and
Mike Redig (doumbec techniques).
Second to her love of belly dance is costuming. She is always on
the lookout for unusual pieces of clothing and jewelry for her next
creations.
She was asked to join Troupe Lotus in May of 2007, and was pleased
to accept. She loves to perform with her Troupe, and also as a
soloist.
Her favored style is primarily Tribal Fusion - with a touch of fire
thrown in.
